This includes any interest and other charges. APR itself is not the\ninterest rate alone but encompasses any extra money you will have to pay back\nwhen borrowing money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_is_it_calculated\"><\/span>How is it calculated?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lenders always take your personal financial\nsituation into account when considering how much interest you should be charged\n\u2013 this means they look at your credit report. If lenders see someone with a\nwell-maintained credit file with no late payments on previous loan agreements,\nthen they will charge a lower interest rate. The opposite is true for people\nwith bad credit; late payments, defaults and any negative marks on your credit\nreport will result in higher interest rates as a form of insurance for the\nlender as to them, you are a high-risk candidate to lend to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"So_if_APR_is_calculated_based_on_the_individual_why_is_there_one_quoted_before_I_apply\"><\/span>So if APR is calculated based on the individual, why is there one quoted\nbefore I apply?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is what\u2019s known as a \u201cRepresentative APR\u201d.\nLenders try to find a fair way of quoting an interest rate for people who are\nconsidering a loan application, which manifests in the form of stating the\nlowest percentage rate they charge 51% percent of applicants. &nbsp;To put it\nsimply, if a quote states you\u2019ll be charged 5.9% APR, this means 51% of people\nwho apply for that loan will get that rate \u2013 49% are actually charged a higher\nrate depending on the health of their credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_the_difference_between_APR_and_AER\"><\/span>What\u2019s the difference between APR and AER?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>APR and AER work in the same way, the only difference is what they are being applied to. APR is relative to borrowing money as discussed earlier, but AER (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Effective_interest_rate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Annual Equivalent Rate<\/a>) applies to the rate of interest you receive on your savings over a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_can_I_lower_the_rate_of_APR_I_am_charged_on_a_credit_agreement\"><\/span>How can I lower the rate of APR I am charged on a credit agreement?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The most effective way to reduce the percentage of APR you are charged is to improve your credit.
