If you\u2019re currently on the holiday you will be eligible to claim on part of the holiday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you are not ATOL protected, you should try claiming through Section 75 (if you paid on a credit card) or consider asking your Visa, AMEX, or Mastercard provider to use chargeback. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, if you are ATOL protected and if you use Section 75, it is likely that you will be able to claim for consequential costs that occur due to the collapse of Thomas Cook. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ve checked the weather, renewed your passports, and\npacked your bags ready for a late summer holiday to escape the downpours\ncurrently taking over the UK and\u2026. Thomas Cook collapses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of the collapse, all future holidays booked through Thomas Cook have been automatically canceled. If you\nhave one, then great news \u2013 you\u2019re covered! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ATOL protects customers flying from the United Kingdom when (or\nif) the travel company that they booked through collapses. This ensures they\nare not out of pocket and don\u2019t become stranded abroad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are likely to be ATOL protected if you booked a package holiday. In the event that you only booked flights, it is unlikely that you have ATOL protection, so you will need to seek a refund in an alternative way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"If_you_are_currently_abroad\"><\/span>If you are currently abroad<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can still make a partial claim if you have been affected in any way if you are currently abroad and covered by ATOL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If you are due to return on or before October 6<sup>th<\/sup><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You will still be able to fly home, as the CAA is currently\norganising for you to either fly home with CAA-operated flights or with other\nairlines. You can finish your holiday as planned, but make sure you keep an eye\non your emails to stay up to date with what\u2019s going on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t need to be ATOL protected to be eligible to fly\nhome, you just need to have a booked flight with Thomas Cook that is flying to\nthe UK. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If you are due to return after October 6<sup>th<\/sup><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need to make your own arrangements for your journey\nhome. If you are covered by ATOL, you will be reimbursed for this flight. Make\nsure you keep all records of your transactions for when you claim. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Civil_Aviation_Authority\"><\/span>The Civil Aviation Authority <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The refunds will be sorted out by the Civil Aviation Authority. It\u2019s not worth sending them anything at the moment, as they\u2019re currently are trying to deal with the UK\u2019s largest-ever peacetime repatriation programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CAA has announced that on or before the 30<sup>th<\/sup> September they will be launching a service to manage refunds. All refunds will be processed within two months of them receiving all of the relevant information. If your holiday has been canceled and you are seeking a refund, the best thing you can do at the moment is gathering up all of the information about your booking including all receipts and statements of payments made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep an eye on <a href=\"http:\/\/thomascook.caa.co.uk\">this website<\/a>&nbsp;to stay up to date with future communications and find out when the service is launched. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"If_you_are_not_ATOL_protected_for_your_holiday\"><\/span>If you are not ATOL protected for your holiday<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Section_75\"><\/span>Section 75<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you paid on a credit card, even just part of the payment, and it is between \u00a3100 and \u00a330,000, you are covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. This means that the credit card provider is equally liable to pay out for your canceled holiday. Every item needs to be between \u00a3100 to \u00a330,000 for this to work, however, so check with your credit card issuer to find out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can become problematic if you didn\u2019t pay Thomas Cook\ndirectly, and instead used a third party travel agent. You can also lose your\nrights under Section 75 if you paid via PayPal. If you\u2019re not sure, ask!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Consequential Losses<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you made other payments that were related to your\noriginal purchase which you then lost as a consequence of Thomas Cook\u2019s\ncollapse, such as train tickets, then you can claim back for these as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to make a claim<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>To make a claim, you\u2019ll need to contact your credit card\ncompany. Tell them you are making a claim under Section 75 of the Consumer\nCredit Act. It\u2019s important that you state this, sot hey know how to deal with\nyour claim going forward. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If all goes well, they\u2019ll send you a form for you to fill\nout and send them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Chargeback\"><\/span>Chargeback<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you paid by debit card, then you\u2019re not completely out of\nluck. Visa, AMEX, and Mastercard all have a rule which can allow you to reverse\na payment you\u2019ve made if something you\u2019ve bought does not arrive or is faulty\non arrival. As you will not receive the product or service you have paid for,\nyou are eligible to do this. Unlike ATOL, this isn\u2019t a legal right, so it may\nnot work in some cases. This works completely by the credit card providers\u2019\ndiscretion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike Section 75, you are only eligible to get a refund on\nthe amount that was put on that specific card \u2013 so a deposit will not get you\nthe full amount back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact Visa, AMEX or Mastercard in order to do this \u2013\ndepending on which one you made your payment on in order to do this. You must\nmake this claim within 120 days of your original flight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Holiday_Insurance\"><\/span>Holiday Insurance <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This might not be the best option, as many insurance\nproviders will not cover in this situation. It is worth checking your policy to\nsee if you\u2019re eligible to claim. If you are, make a claim as you would with\nthem normally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Train_tickets_%E2%80%93_can_I_cancel_or_change_my_connecting_train_tickets\"><\/span>Train tickets \u2013 can I cancel or change my connecting train tickets?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Several train companies have agreed to refund customers who\nhave bought train tickets to connect to their Thomas Cook flight. These are\nGatwick Express, Great Northern, Southern, and Thameslink. If you booked train\ntickets with them then you\u2019re able to cancel them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"I_just_landed_for_my_holiday_and_already_have_a_train_ticket_for_a_different_date\"><\/span>I just landed for my holiday and already have a train ticket for a different date<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They will allow you to travel with your original ticket on\nyour chosen date. Make sure you have evidence with you that you are a Thomas\nCook customer so change your ticket date for you, free of charge. You do not\nneed to go to the ticket office to have the ticket changed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"I_need_to_change_the_date_of_my_holiday_ahead_of_travel\"><\/span>I need to change the date of my holiday ahead of travel<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to make changes ahead of the date of travel, just head to a ticket office where they will exchange the ticket for you. You\u2019ll need evidence that your flight was cancelled. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Im_not_flying_to_the_same_airport_%E2%80%93_can_I_use_my_original_ticket\"><\/span>I\u2019m not flying to the same airport \u2013 can I use my original ticket?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you were repatriated to a different airport, you cannot\nuse your original ticket.
